The air conditioning is maintaining a comfortable temperature in the house and office, because the temperature outside has risen to an uncomfortable 90 degrees. Beach weather for sure is on the agenda and all the treats that will cool us off. One of the treats I enjoy is ice cream but like everything it has its limits. There are many valid reasons to limit the consumption of that icy treat known as ice cream.

Why Should We Limit Icy Treats?

I guess I should be the one to remind everyone that many frozen treats have high fat content. Now if you are someone who needs to gain a few pounds indulging in high fat content frozen treats may be just the thing for you so go ahead and enjoy yourself. The rest of us who are striving to maintain a healthy weight must be careful about the fat content of our frozen treats.

What is the Reason for Caution?

There are many health concerns that go with high fat content life styles. This makes us take note of the serious biological manifestations of organ dysfunctions. I will elaborate on just a one that concerns older individuals. This is the fabulous gallbladder, its job is to store bile and bile emulsifies fats in the digestive system. An over-abundance of fat that can not be emulsified it crystallizes these crystallizations become gallstones. These gallstones fill the gallbladder, hyper-extending the bile storing unit until it becomes inflamed. The inflamed gallbladder can become infected with gangrene. The prognosis is infiltration of all the organs and eventual death of the individual by gangrene. Usually before it gets to that critical stage the gallbladder will begin to be painful and this alerts the physician there is a problem. The physician will recommend the gallbladder be removed which is a solution to the problem of gangrene. Another reason is high cholesterol and there are numerous medications to maintain a healthy level of cholesterol. High cholesterol clogs arteries and damages heart valves. Where does cholesterol come from; you guessed it, fat.

How Can Problems be Avoided?

Okay, okay, I know you are smart enough to figure out how to avoid biological problems with your body. I really AM just concerned with healthy frozen treats because it is summer. The best frozen treat that I can recommend is frozen yogurt. Frozen yogurt is made with milk instead of cream that makes it a low fat treat. Low in cholesterol and fat makes frozen yogurt the ideal treat. No clogged arteries, no gallstones or gallbladder disease.

Where is Yogurt Made?

Yogurt was first made and enjoyed about four thousand years ago. It was brought to the United States in the 1900’s and began a steady climb of popularity as a health food. It wasn’t until the 1980’s that soft-serve frozen yogurt became popular. Numerous producers of dairy products have a line dedicated to creating frozen yogurt. The health benefits of yogurt, makes it the ideal frozen treat. It can be made at home or purchased in a grocery store.

Conclusion:

I don’t know about you, but I love my frozen yogurt. I enjoy my frozen yogurt treat year around but really relish it in the summer. Summer means different things to different individuals, for me its balloons, bubbles, kites, beaches, bathing suits, sun block, and frozen yogurt. Hey, you, why don’t you come on down and join me. See you soon.
